Electoral rights of mobile Union citizens in European Parliament elections

The European Parliament adopted, by 587 votes to 60, with 21 abstentions, following a special legislative procedure (consultation), a legislative resolution on the draft Council directive laying down detailed arrangements for the exercise of the right to vote and stand as a candidate in elections to the European Parliament for Union citizens residing in a Member State of which they are not nationals (recast).

Parliament approved the Council's draft as adapted to the recommendations of the consultative working party of the legal services of the European Parliament, the Council and the Commission. The proposal is limited to a straightforward codification of existing acts, without changing their substance…

For: 587(88 %). Against: 60(9 %). Abstentions: 21(3 %). In total, 668 MEPs voted. 51 MEPs didn’t vote.
