Privacy notice

We limit the amount of personal data that we process as much as possible. We process personal information only with your consent or when it’s necessary to provide this service.

Access data

When you request a page from HowTheyVote.eu, your device automatically transfers certain information to our server:

  • Operating system
  • Browser type
  • Your IP address
  • Your language preferences
  • URL from which you’ve accessed HowTheyVote.eu

This information is strictly necessary in order to provide you access to HowTheyVote.eu.

The legal basis for processing the personal information is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR.

Access logs

When you request a page from HowTheyVote.eu, we store certain information about the request:

  • Date and time of the request
  • Page accessed
  • URL from which you’ve accessed HowTheyVote.eu
  • Country from which the request originated
  • The network operator (e.g.., your internet provider) from which the request originated

We derive the country and network operator from your IP address, but we do not store your IP address. We store this information to detect and block unusual request patterns, including attacks such as DDoS. We delete access logs after 30 days.

The legal basis for processing the personal information is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR.

We use a data processor, Functional Software, Inc. d/b/a Sentry, 45 Fremont Street, 8th Floor, San Francisco, CA 94105, USA, to store access logs. This involves the transfer of personal information to the United States. The transfer is governed by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (adequacy decision in accordance with Art. 45 GDPR), under which Sentry is certified. Where the adequacy decision does not apply or is invalidated, the transfer is governed by Standard Contractual Clauses in accordance with Art. 46(2)(c) GDPR. Contact forms

We provide forms that you can use to contact us if you have found an error in our data or would like to give feedback about HowTheyVote.eu. You can submit these forms without providing personal information such as your name or email address. However, if you’d like to allow us to contact you in case of follow-up questions, you can optionally provide your email address.

The legal basis for processing personal information submitted through contact forms is Article 6(1)(a) GDPR.

We use a data processor, Tally, August van Lokerenstraat 71, 9050 Gent, Belgium, to provide the forms and collect form submissions. Members of the European Parliament

We collect and store the following personal information about Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) in order to provide access to and archive information about legislative and non-legislative procedures. We only collect and store information made publicly available by institutions of the European Union.

  • Date of birth
  • Duration of membership
  • Political group memberships
  • Email address
  • Facebook profile
  • Twitter profile
