The European Parliament adopted by 562 votes to 2, with 30 abstentions, a resolution on the increasing and systematic repression of women in Iran.
The text adopted in plenary was tabled by the EPP, S&D, ECR, Renew, Greens/EFA groups and Members.
Members strongly condemned the increasing and systematic repression of women in Iran and deplored the fact that authorities detained Ahoo Daryaei, who removed her clothing in protest, labelling her ‘mentally unfit’, and committed her to a psychiatric facility. The believe that the repression of politically defiant women through psychiatric confinement is an act of torture.
